  • SMD Ferrite beads are the most widely used EMI suppression component for two fundamental reasons: A) cost-effective B) easy to add to the circuit because of their small size C) broad range with various features and benefits. As the name suggests, in multi-layer “ferrite” chip beads, the raw material of the core body is ferrite. Due to their high magnetic permeability, Ferrite materials are always used at high frequencies. On the other hand, the inductance value is small and the loss is low at low frequencies. Typically, Z (impedance value) is tested at 100MHz for the highest impedance value. Ferrite chip beads are also called ferrite blocks. This SMD EMI filter has wide impedance characteristics. Their impedance mainly consists of a resistive component. Therefore, when this component is inserted in series with the noise conduction path, it can attenuate the noise content.
